LIMITED EDITION CERAMIC GOLD RECORD
SONIC MUD | ABOVE GROUND
CERAMIC GOLD RECORD
22k gold luster, glaze, clay
Edition of 10
The etymology of record is cor -courd -cour
-coure (Italian) -coeur (French) -corazon (Spanish) -heart (English)
This gold ceramic record was cast from the metal mother of two SONIC MUD tracks, ‘Ugav Nights’ and ‘Paradise Garden.’
The mother is a metal plate, with grooves on its face, that is two steps removed from a cut vinyl lacquer. To create the ceramic gold record, a two-part plaster mold was made around the two-sided mother and ceramic slip was poured into the mold.
The final ceramic object is a physical record of our album and a record of our labor. The music in the ABOVE GROUND album was made from ceramic instruments. The instruments were recorded and made into a metal record. The record was cast and made back into clay.
Each record comes with a hand painted box. No two boxes are alike.
This record casting project would not have been possible without the help of Madeleine Ventrice.
